[00:46] Welcome to Yoga Girl Daily. Happy Monday! Welcome to a brand-new week. So I sat down just now to record this episode of the podcast and I was having a little conversation with myself going back and forth, trying to find a way to bridge what I actually really want to talk about today with what the theme of this show is and what the episode for Monday's normally is, which of course is an intention setting. Normally on Mondays we set intentions for the week. It's always very centered around our hearts, around our healing, around our personal development and growth. And actually today I don't want to set an intention that's centered around us, and I say that knowing that the majority of the people who are listening to this show right now are white people. The majority of people listening right now are white women and we have all been following the atrocious things that have been happening in the United States lately.
[01:44] The senseless murder of innocent Black people. It's not a one-time thing. It's not isolated events. It happens again and again and again, and even if you don't reside in in the US, the racism that pervades our society is a global issue. It's not just American, and for me right now to sit here and talk about ways for us to continue our inner growth when there are literal people dying in front of our very eyes. When there are uprisings happening all across the United States, where people need support and help. People fighting for revolution, fighting for actual justice and change. To talk about anything other than this would not be authentic to me and it would be absolutely irresponsible.
[02:38] So this week I want you to look up and around and take action. This week I want you to acknowledge the fact that all of the inner work that we are all doing, this healing work, this journey that we're all on, that it doesn't mean a lot if we're not able to acknowledge the suffering of other people and to reach out and do what we can to help. When other people suffer, we suffer. We are all one people. We are all so connected and we have all absolutely fooled ourselves and been conditioned to think that we are separate. And yes, of course, the great spiritual teachings of oneness, of loving kindness, all of that is beautiful and very real, right? But we cannot apply those teachings when there are huge parts of our population currently suffering, when that oneness actually isn't being applied in real life.
[03:32] So this week, I want you to take action. This week, I want you to take action. This week, I want all of us to take action. Now, if you're a person of color, if you're Black and you're listening to this right now, you don't need to do anything other than take care of yourself the best you can. For every white person listening, which is the majority of my listeners of this show, I want you to take action in any way you possibly can. If there is an uprising happening in your area, go there and physically have your presence there to support. If there's nothing you can do in your local area, if there is no way for you to actually be physically present, I want you to donate some money to great organizations that are doing this work on the front lines. If you don't have any money to donate and that's just an impossibility for you right now…
[04:20] I want you to share the important voices that are actually educating this world and that are doing the work that's needed right now and most important for all of us. I want us to educate ourselves on this issue. If you're having a hard time talking about race, if you feel like you don't know where to start, you feel like you're always saying the wrong thing. You feel like you want to support, but you don't know how. That generally means that we need more education. I shared to Instagram just yesterday, 10 books to read, 10 Instagram accounts to follow and 10 organizations to donate to. That's a really good place to just begin. Truth of the matter is we cannot allow for this to go on and the violence that we are seeing is violence perpetrated toward Black people by white people. Meaning if you're white, this violence is your ancestry.
[05:09] It's your history and it's our responsibility right now to learn about it, to educate ourselves about it, and to dismantle the racism that is very much alive within each of us. It's the only way through. So, this week I will take action and let my triggers show me how to grow. Anything that triggers you around this conversation, anything that upsets you, let that trigger be a doorway for you into a deeper place of learning. And remembering right now that as a white person, ultimately this is not about you. This is not about us, this is about injustice. It's about fundamental human rights and whether you believe it or not, you have the power to make a change in this world. You absolutely do. So this week, let's do something. Take action, donate, talk about it, share, spread the word, be present on the front lines if you can, and let's actively make a change that's so very needed right now. Thank you so much for listening. If you go to my Instagram account, @yoga_girl, the resources are shared right there, so it's a good place to begin. Yoga Girl Daily will be back tomorrow.
