[00:04] Welcome to Yoga Girl Daily! Happy Thursday everyone, and welcome to our gratitude practice of this week. Today, I have a practice in mind that's something that I do really often, especially if I am having a little bit of a hard week, and I want to anchor into myself in a really solid way. This practice is something that you can do every single day, and I prefer to do it right at the end of the day. What we're going to do today is, right before bed, I want you to bring your journal and your pen with you, and then take a moment to journal on your highlights of the day. So what are some things that you were the most grateful for that happened today? It's kind of like taking a little mental scan of your day. So you'll do this when you're in bed, it will be the last thing you do before you go to bed.
[00:56] So don't go from this to scrolling on your phone or watching TV or anything else, but let it really be the last thing you do before you turn the lights off and go to sleep. So making a little mental scan of your day, beginning with the moment you woke up this morning, what happened today? What was this day like? How did you feel all throughout the day? Who did you meet? Who did you come across? Did something surprising happen, did something challenging come your way, did something amazing come your way? Just take a little inventory of everything that happened throughout the day, and then write down the highlights that you are so very grateful for. And what's amazing with doing this practice right at the end of the day is especially if you've had a hard day or if you feel like you're going through kind of a tough time right now, having this little inventory of your day can actually rewire how we remember the day when you wake up the next morning.
[01:52] So if the last thing you remember were the good things that happened, because even on really shitty days, trust me when I say, there's always something or many things to be grateful for, there are always little silver linings, always blessings, always something good that came our way. And when those are the last things we remember, chances are we actually will have a better night’s sleep and we'll wake up the next morning feeling more refreshed, maybe even having reframed the day before. So especially if it was a tough day, you know, get really into the details about what came your way that day. So did you have a great cup of coffee in the morning? Did you have a good breakfast? Were you able to be outside and look at the sky and breathe fresh air? You know, did you hug someone today? Did someone make you smile?
[02:42] Did something make you laugh? Did you have a moment where you felt really joyful? Did you move your body today? Did you eat something delicious? Did you rest, did you take a nap? Did you do something totally calm and grounding? How about that exact moment of you lying in bed writing about your day? I mean, that alone, having the ability to do that is something to be grateful for. So our gratitude practice today is not something you're going to do right away, but you're going to wait until the end of the day, bring your journal and your pen. I have a special journal that I keep right next to my bed in my bedside table. And I use it for exactly this, for writing about my day for taking notes of gratitude, and sometimes if have really weird dreams, I know it's good to have my journal next to me so I can write my dreams down if I want to remember them in the morning.
[03:31] So get into the habit of having that journal by your bedside table. And then tonight, before you go to bed, take a moment to take a deep breath and kind of run through your day in your mind and feel through your day in your heart and then write everything you're grateful for down on paper. It's a good practice to have. I hope you enjoy it. I hope you have a beautiful day with lots of things to be grateful for at the end of it. Thank you so much for practicing gratitude with me today. Yoga Girl Daily will be back tomorrow.
