About the Episode

It really is the little things that matter.

Your routine, and the habits that make up that routine, dictate how you ultimately live your life. Sometimes, there are habits that we absolutely dread - but they really can increase our wellbeing and our happiness.

This week, we are going to focus on finding those habits in our own lives and doing them more! Is it drinking enough water? Taking your vitamins? Flossing? Making your bed?

They may be boring, but the more we do them, the more we realize how simple things can uplift our lives.

[00:33] Welcome to Yoga Girl Daily and happy Monday! It's first day of a brand new week today. I genuinely love Mondays. I always feel really excited about the prospect of a brand-new week ahead and I love setting a good intention for the week so that we have something great to anchor into. Something that has been on my mind a lot lately is the idea of happiness and wellbeing. I have been talking on the regular Yoga Girl Podcast about this a lot and the conclusion that really what makes up a happy life or that overall feeling of feeling good is the little things that accumulate throughout the day. The little things that we do every day, the actions we take daily and something that might look like something very small or maybe even insignificant actually adds up at the end of the day.

[01:31] So for this week's intention, I would love for us to focus on the small daily habits that we have that we know actually add up to us feeling really good in our lives. So identifying those habits and then making sure that this week we stick to them, we commit to them. And when I say small daily habits, I mean something as simple as drinking enough water in the day. It could be something that feels like a drag, drinking all that water, but Hey, you know, you need it to feel good. Let's commit to that habit. For me, something that is so simple that I don't know why it's such a hard thing for me to commit to, but taking my vitamins in the morning, I dread it. I think it's a bore. I don't know why it's so hard for me to commit to, but I know when I take my vitamins every day, I feel better in the long run, so I really want to stick to that habit and commit to it fully.

[02:21] Perhaps you're one of those people who just dreads taking off your makeup at the end of the day and you go to sleep without washing your face. Something as simple as committing to that so that you wake up feeling fresh. It's so easy and so important. So let's go ahead and identify those habits. What are the ones that you know are crucial to you? Perhaps it's something like making your bed in the morning before you go to work so that when you come home at the end of a long day, you can have that sense of peace and order in your house. Perhaps it's the habit of moving your body a little bit every day. Maybe it's going for a walk. For me, I've been really inspired to run lately. I know on the days when I go for a run, I feel so energized throughout my day, but it's hard to stick to that habit and actually put my shoes on and get myself out the door.

[03:06] Perhaps your daily habit that you know makes you feel great is your gratitude practice or your meditation practice or your yoga practice or cleaning your kitchen or just having your to-do list organized. Something around how you care for yourself. Finding out exactly what those habits are and then really making this week to focus on those things. It might not look like it means like a whole lot. Taking your vitamins, maybe flossing every day, that's one of those things that's just a bore, but we know it's so important for our health. What are those things that you know you have a hard time sticking to that you will commit to fully for this week? For me, it's definitely sticking with my runs because I feel so good after I run taking my vitamins every morning, flossing every day and drinking enough water. Simple things, but man, these things add up and actually give us that sense of wellbeing at the end of the day. So, intention for this week is: This week I will stick to the habits that I know are good for me. This week I will stick to the habits that I know are good for me. Take a moment right now to identify what those habits are specifically for you, and let's make this week a week of feeling really, really, really good. We all deserve it. Thank you so much for tuning into Yoga Girl Daily today. I'll be back tomorrow.
