[00:58] Welcome to Yoga Girl Daily and happy Thursday! Welcome to our gratitude practice of this week. It's Thankful Thursday, so let's anchor into this wonderful life changing practice of gratitude. For today's practice, I want us to focus on something that recently has surprised us that brought us some level of gratitude. What is something that either came your way lately, something that unexpectedly came into your life, something you discovered that surprised you with some gratitude? We tend to get really clear around the things in our lives that we should be grateful for every day. Of course, it's easy to be grateful for our family and the people we love, the people who love us back, and sometimes we can get into this kind of like a “gratitude rut” where we're just grateful for the same things every day, but then that gratitude tends to remain on the surface a little bit more.

[02:00] Or maybe it's more the idea of gratitude versus actually anchoring into that mind-blowing heart opening, feeling of thankfulness that can really change our lives. We feel that level of gratitude in the body. So, what is something you've been grateful for lately that took you by surprise? Something that was unexpected that you're normally not putting at the top of your gratitude list? Take a moment, even close your eyes if you like, and just scan your life a little bit for an unexpected moment or a surprising moment of gratitude that you've had. For me, I recently had a big moment of total unexpected gratitude through a phone call, a meeting that I was in, and I was kind of dreading this meeting. It was about something administrational that I don't really enjoy doing. And then I kind of approached it with this negativity of, ugh, I wish I could do something different with my time right now, but I have to go take this boring meeting.

[02:56] And then suddenly just because of who was on that call, I was able to experience a moment of actual genuine connection with the person on the other end of the line. And it was really unexpected because it was someone I didn't really know all that well and we ended up having such a wonderful, really heartfelt conversation from the most unexpected setting. And I found myself hanging up that call just smiling, feeling like wow, in awe of this universe from having such a wonderful heart to heart with a person I didn't really know all that well. So that was just the moment this week where I felt unexpected gratitude for something I was not excited about doing at all in the beginning. So what is a moment for you? Perhaps you've had a little curve ball thrown your way or something you were anticipating that you were not excited about or some way where you found yourself surprised and then grateful for what came into your life. It could be a surprising encounter with a person who you're normally challenged by.

[03:54] It could be taking a little detour on your way to work and then finding something unexpected that made your day. What is something you're grateful for or have been grateful for lately that took you by surprise? This world really is filled with surprises every day. We never really know exactly what's going to come our way. And I think approaching life with that mindset, those open eyes, knowing that moments of gratitude can be found just around the corner. Sometimes we just have to keep our eyes peeled open, looking for them a little bit more. Let's take a moment just to speak some gratitude out loud before we close using the words “Thank you” as a mantra is a really powerful thing. I like to do it in the morning when I wake up, especially if I'm feeling grumpy or having a tough morning just to repeat to myself, “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.” It shifts our mindset immediately. So do that right now. You don't even have to direct it to something totally specific, but just thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Keep that mantra for the rest of the day. Thank you for listening. Yoga Girl Daily will be back tomorrow.
