Sometimes we set really good intentions for our day, but then life takes over. Today’s practice will allow you to step into gratitude at every moment.

Let’s keep a gratitude journal! Bring a notebook with you today and every single time you encounter something you feel grateful for, write it down. Soak the gratitude in and then document it in real time. Be specific!

By the end of the day, you will be able to see a long list of things big and small you found yourself grateful for in that moment.

You may just realize that you have more things to be grateful for in a single day that you usually give credit for.


[00:04] Welcome to Yoga Girl Daily and happy Thursday, everyone! It's Thankful Thursday today. It's time for us to jump into a specific kind of gratitude practice. Today I have a really exciting one in mind because I don't know how you feel, but sometimes I set out really good intentions for myself for the day, also around gratitude and then you know, life takes over. We never know really where the day is going to take us and it can be hard to stay really anchored around that practice throughout the entire day. So today we're going to do something very specific and very actionable, which I love. We are going to keep a gratitude journal for one single day. That means that today, from the moment that this podcast is over, you're going to either use your journal, your diary, your notebook, and a pen. I prefer that because I like to write things down physically with my hand.

[00:55] If you're on the go or you don't have that around, you can also use the notes app on your phone, that’s also a super easy way to go about it. And every single moment that you have or that you encounter today where something comes your way and you feel grateful that that happened or grateful for that thing or that experience, I want you to pause, recognize that, Oh, I'm grateful for this and then write that thing down. I'm going to give you some examples. For me today, the first thing that happened was that I had kind of a hard night with the baby so I woke up feeling a little bit cranky and grumpy. I went downstairs and Dennis had made me an amazing cup of coffee. We're traveling right now. I didn't even know there was a coffee machine here. I didn't even know we had coffee and I was greeted, literally like he just put it in my hand, an amazing cup of coffee and it was so delicious.

[01:45] I just naturally paused and went, Oh, thank you. And then I caught myself, Hmm, that this is a big moment of gratitude. It's a small thing but a big thing. And then write that down, right? That perfect cup of coffee this morning. And then I continue with my day. Randomly we were outside, Lea Luna pauses, looks at me and gives me a hug. It's like one of those toddler hugs that was from nowhere. She just melts into me for a second and then she lets go and she rushes off the other direction and I had another moment of motherhood. Thank you. And then pause and write that down. So every single thing that comes your way today or something has brought you joy, or something has been an unexpected relief, an unexpected shift of energy, large things, small things, interactions with people, family, friends. Someone gives you a break at work, you eat something delicious, the sun is shining and you actually feel it as you're walking outside.

[02:43] All those moments that normally we breeze by fairly quickly. And then perhaps at the end of the day we might do a gratitude practice and we scan through our day and we think about all the things and then we remember them and then we write them down. Today I want you to do it in real time. So keeping a really great present gratitude journal today for one day where every time something wonderful comes your way, give yourself the space to pause and actually acknowledged that gratitude. It's like you're taking the energy of that gratitude and you're drawing it, stretching it, making it last longer, making it take up more space. Breathe it in, acknowledge that Man, I'm thankful and then write it down and be pretty specific about what happened and then see if you can be so mindful throughout your day today, really keeping this gratitude journal in the front of your mind throughout everything that comes your way.

[03:34] See how many times today you can actually give yourself that space to pause and soak up the gratitude and then write it down. Hopefully at the end of the day you can actually pull up your journal or your notes on your phone and see a whole long list of things big and small, where you actually got to acknowledge and feel totally grateful in the moment. And then before you go to bed tonight, you can relive those things. Just scan through them one by one. And again, let yourself feel that wonderful, beautiful energy of gratitude. Perhaps even recognizing that you have more things to be grateful for in a day than you actually give yourself credit for. So that we don't have to look for them at the end of the day, but we actually give ourselves more space, more acknowledgements to feel the gratitude. So by doing this practice, you can actually have an entire day where you just feel grateful for everything.

[04:28] You might even come across something that feels like a challenge, that feels like hurt, that feels like pain, and then something around that or something within that, or something that comes after that is something to be grateful for, too. So, this practice today for Thankful Thursday is a really great example of how gratitude can actually change our lives. Thank you so much for tuning in with me today.
