In today’s episode, we are going to tap into that power with a New Year’s meditation. Take some time for yourself to sit in stillness today with a completely blank slate. You have the choice with where you want to go next.

Use your breath to guide you there.


[01:00] Welcome to Yoga Girl Daily and happy New Year, you guys! It's January 1st, 2020. This day is so filled with possibilities, with potential. If we've ever had a blank slate ahead, this day is the day where we can fully feel that 2020 is here. It's not just a brand new year, it's a brand new decade, and you really do have the choice in what kind of year you want to create for yourself. There's a lot of things that happen in life that are totally out of our control, but when it comes to setting an intention for the year, when it comes to feeling into what we want to create for ourselves in 2020, you have a lot of control when it comes to deciding that for yourself.

[01:54] So today, for our Wellbeing Wednesday practice, we have a meditation on the infinite endless possibilities that lie ahead. I would love for you to find that quiet place to sit so you can close your eyes, connecting to the breath, connecting to the body right here, right now. If you feel the natural urge to place your hands anywhere on your body, go ahead and do that. Perhaps you want the palms of your hands to be facing up toward the sky in a little bit more of a receiving motion right here, but whatever comes natural to you. And let's go ahead and take a cleansing breath. With this breath, imagining that anything that might be lingering from last night, from last year that you don't want to bring with you into this year that we're in right now. With your exhale, consciously release anything you'd like to rid yourself of, anything you'd like to release from your system. So, we'll have our next breath in be the deepest, fullest breath you could possibly find. Full inhale in through the nose. Take a moment to pause holding your breath at the top and just notice that sensation of holding on for a moment and now loud and clear, open your mouth. Exhale, let it go.

[03:23] And now feeling into the sensation within the body in this moment, noticing the energy that's moving inside of you. If there is any special area of the body where you feel more presence right now, letting that natural rhythm of the breath, the inhale, the exhale flow through the nose and noticing in this moment what it feels like to be here, now. 2019 is gone. 2019 is in the past and you're sitting here now on the very first day of this brand new year, brand new decade ahead. 2020, welcome! And feeling into your heart in this moment, what it feels like to have arrived to this moment. Ahead of you is 365 days of limitless potential. In front of you, you have an absolutely clear, clean, blank slate and you can choose to fill the year ahead with anything you want. And this is a wild, wonderful idea to entertain, to contemplate a little bit.

[04:38] You actually do have the choice, not just today, not just January 1st, but every day of your life to wake up and consciously choose to create a kind of feeling, a kind of sensation, a kind of intention, actions, something you want to create and something that you want each day to bring. And of course it doesn't mean that we can avoid things we don't want, right? There's always going to be that unforeseen factor. That's the beauty of life, is that we don't know what's going to come our way. But you can set that powerful intention to be present with everything that comes your way, the way you're present here now, feeling your body, noticing your breath, listening to the sound of my voice. Totally 100% present here, now. And whenever we drop into that state of presence, anything is possible. And whatever comes our way, we'll be able to respond to that from the present moment. Choosing consciously how to act in each day of this year ahead. So feeling the power of this day, the power of this year ahead, and most of all the power of this moment right here, right now. Let's take another deep full breath in. All the way past the heart, down into the low belly. Inhale.

[06:12] Again, opening the mouth. Let it out. You can turn the corners of the mouth up into a smile and then fluttering the eyes open. Take this moment just to send some gratitude to this practice, to your ability to be present, to sit down, give yourself the space and time to really connect to yourself, to your heart, and then a big gratitude to everything that's ahead this year. Everything that's yet to come. One thing we know for sure is that we have plenty of opportunities to meditate this year, and I hope you'll join me for Yoga Girl Daily meditations every Wednesday.
