Karen Samuels, PhD, is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Ormond Beach, Florida. Yulady Saluti inspires people through her strength and courage. After battling and overcoming a serious colon rectal medical condition, Yulady dove head first into a new, healthy life filled with yoga and studies in Ayurveda. It was only three years into her practice, at the age of thirty two (and during her 20th surgery related to her colon illness), that her doctors discovered that she had Stage 2 breast cancer. Yulady battled cancer successfully and continued to teach and practice yoga to help heal herself from her medical problems. Ever graceful and full of life, Yulady continues to inspire with her indomitable will to heal herself and teach her students how to persevere through any situation. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate with the state of Washington (license #MC60602604), having earned my Master's of Arts in Psychology from Seattle University. I completed my practicum at the Seattle Veterans Center where I worked with combat veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), victims of Military Sexual Trauma (MST) and those with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Along with traditional talk therapy, I incorporated yoga, meditation, and other physical therapies into sessions. What I witnessed was not only an alleviation of painful symptoms, but for many of my clients, a return to a sense of feeling alive, vital, and engaged in their lives.

Rebecca Deutsch is a woman in growth, neither caterpillar nor butterfly rather she is currently cocooned in a state of transformation and change. Rebecca has spent the last several years caring for young children. After having recently gone through a traumatic loss she is trying to lean into love and fear to create a meaningful life. She has struggled with post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, and self-mutilation. Yoga has become a practice that has brought her peace, courage, and balance. Mindfully moving with the breath creates space to feel safely. She often cries during shavasana (something she was once ashamed of but now embraces). Yoga creates genuine communities of people that fully recognize the beauty in one another. She loves writing, creating (charcoal, crochet, cross-stitch, and so on) and dreams about completing her degree in Sociology. My name is Mathilda Sundström, I am 28 years old and I live in my hometown of Borlänge in Sweden. I grew up in the shadows of my mother's mental illness. My life-road has not been straight. I have had to fight for every single thing that I have achieved. Yes, I have been through a lot, but that has taught me to try and see the light in life. Everything happens for a reason, it`s your job to find out what you can learn from the hard times in your life. Because trust me, there is always a lesson in everything, the trick is to find it. I found yoga in my tiny dorm room while studying criminology at university and since then I have evolved my practice and incorporated it more and more in my day to day life. My yoga practice helps me to find the light inside of me so that I slowly, breath for breath, asana for asana, can heal myself.

Andrea Lopez-Yianilos, Psy.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist based in New York City. She specializes in treating individuals who suffer from sleep problems, traumatic experiences, chronic health conditions, depression, and anxiety. In addition to her private practice (www.drlopezyianilos.com), she works with 9/11 survivors at the WTC Environmental Health Center at Bellevue Hospital and is a Clinical Instructor at NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Lopez-Yianilos completed a yoga teacher training in 2012 while attending graduate school in Florida, and taught yoga at a local studio until she graduated from her doctoral proram. Her yoga practice has informed her personal and professional experience, particularly in understanding the union of mind, body, and emotions.
