Today for Thankful Thursday, we are doing a fun exercise called your Top 3 Things.

We often have an idea of what we should feel grateful for; things like our home, our family, and our job. While these things are super important, they are not necessarily what we actually feel grateful for in this exact minute.

What are the three things you are most grateful for right now? Your bed? A cup of tea? The light streaming through your window?

True gratitude is always found in the present moment.


[00:04] Welcome to Yoga Girl Daily, you guys and happy Thursday, everyone! It's Thankful Thursday today, which means it's time for our gratitude practice and our gratitude practice is something that can change every single day. I like to have a specific theme so that I have different things to center my gratitude around. Today we're going to do a practice that I call top three things, and my top three things are the top three things that you are the most grateful for in this moment, right here, right now. So we often have this idea about gratitude, like we need to feel more or less gratitude for different things and certain people in our lives we should feel super grateful for all the time. And the thing about thankfulness is it's not something that we can connect to in our minds, right? But that sense of true, authentic gratitude is something that lies within our hearts.

[00:58] So our top three things don't have to be anything that your mind tells you, you should be grateful for, but literally whatever's resonating as the deepest in this moment today. So perhaps you had something that has been a little bit challenging for you this week and something unexpected came around to help you through a hard situation. Maybe a stranger did something beautiful for you this week and that really helped to turn your day around. Then that gratitude top three might include that stranger, right? It could be something as simple as that beautiful moment with your cup of tea in the morning. So what are your top three things that you are grateful for in this moment? Top three. So let's go ahead and count them out either out loud if you want. You can also use a journal and pen. Write this down, use the notes app on your phone, but your top three things. Ready, set, go.

[01:55] I am so unbelievably grateful for the fact that I got to wake up this morning for the first day in a lot of days where I did not feel any pain in the back of my throat. I've had that for a while and this morning I just woke up and it was like something's different. And the fact that I am, at least for today, rid of whatever's been going on with my throat makes me feels so, so, so grateful. So I'm gonna put my throat, which also of course is my health, but specifically my throat health at the top of this list. And the second thing that comes to mind right away is my dog Ringo. I feel like I've been neglecting him a little bit lately and he's just always there regardless of what I'm moving through. Always ready to cuddle, always wagging his tail always so, so happy.

[02:43] And he really helps to lift my spirits whenever I need him. So I'm going to put Ringo, my dog, at the number two spot right there. And now that I'm feeling into my top threes, you know, I have my daughter, my husband, you know, family cause I have this idea in my mind that they should always be in the top because of they're so important there my whole life. But actually what ends up landing in my top three right now is my yoga practice. I had a really beautiful yoga practice this morning that just left me feeling very, very connected to my body. I am so grateful for that practice. And of course our gratitude practice is so big, it can encompass everything in our lives. But focusing on those top three things actually opens us up to something that might be a little bit unexpected.

[03:27] So we can leave space for more of that every single day. I don't think I spend enough time giving thanks to my health, only when I get a little bit sick or ill, then I start thinking about my health. But it's important to give things to our health also when we are feeling good, right? So today, do this practice. Sit down with your journal in your pen, your top three things that you are grateful for right now, and then let them be a little bit unconventional. So whatever is truly true for you in this moment. It doesn't have to be, you know, your spouse, your baby, your house. It can be something totally unexpected and a little bit different. But your top three things in this moment that you are so very grateful for. Give yourself that moment to truly appreciate and feel them. Thank you so much for practicing gratitude today. Literally, it's that beautiful practice that can turn your whole day around, so just return to that practice of focusing on your top three moments of gratitude, your top three things that you're grateful for right now, and focus on the energy that that gratitude brings you.
