Welcome to the Caribbean

Our founder, Rachel Brathen, creates life-changing experiences wherever she goes in the world. In the Caribbean paradise of Aruba, Rachel now offers a 200-hr Yoga Teacher Training.

Held at Island Yoga and led by the one and only Yoga Girl®, this 23-day immersive training is designed to fully prepare you to teach the ancient science of yoga from an authentic place of inspiration, education, creativity, and compassion. We believe it is just as much about intelligent alignment as it is about your connection with your own heart – and the voice you allow it to share.

Our RYS-200 Teacher Training offers the highest standards of content and exploration. You will dive deep into yoga philosophy and history, anatomy and physiology, sequencing and speaking, safe assisting and modifying for diverse populations, how to turn your sacred passion into a supportive career, and much more. Upon completion and passing of all examinations, you will receive an Island Yoga 200-hr Yoga Teacher Training Certificate, granting you eligibility to register with globally recognized Yoga Alliance as a RYT-200.

It is a journey. It is a process. It is a lifelong path that begins here. It’s time to awaken your truth on every level.

Rachel Brathen

Founder & CEO, Certified Yoga Teacher

Hi! I'm Rachel Brathen; a Swedish native, New York Times best-selling author, serial entrepreneur and international yoga teacher living in Aruba with my husband Dennis and our baby girl Lea Luna. After graduating from school in Stockholm, I traveled to Costa Rica where I found the joy of incorporating yoga into my everyday life. Deepening my yoga practice and beginning teaching, I moved to Central America where I spent years exploring the intricate studies of yoga and spirituality. After moving to Aruba early 2010, I began teaching yoga full time. My classes are a dynamic Vinyasa Flow integrating alignment, core work, and breathing techniques with basic poses and creative sequencing, but asana is only a small piece of the work we do in the yoga shala. I incorporate holistic therapeutic tools like sharing, active listening and journaling in every session and there is a deep level of heart healing at the center of every class I teach. My classes serve the purpose of deepening a connection not only to ourselves, but with the people around us. I love to share pieces of my life with the world! I do so every day through social media and you will find me traveling all over the world to connect with the amazing community I call home. I am the founder of www.oneOeight.com; an online platform for yoga, meditation, and healing. As the most successful crowd-funded yoga project of all time, the platform is made up of a vast community of dedicated practitioners from all over the world looking to cultivate balance, create space for inner healing and deepen their yoga practice. With an amazing team of experienced guides and teachers, oneOeight offers heart-centered classes designed to fit the always evolving needs of body, mind and soul. In 2016, Dennis and I opened Island Yoga - the largest yoga studio in the Caribbean, boasting two shalas, a boutique, an organic café and offices for our team. Visit www.islandyoga.com for information on teacher trainings, workshops and to see the upcoming schedule! Giving back to the community has always been at the center of all of my initiatives – with the help of awesome staff and volunteers I run two non-profit organizations: Sgt Pepper’s Friends; an animal rescue foundation based in Aruba and Yoga Girl® Foundation, benefitting women and children in need.

Katrina Corner
Katrina Corner

Enrollment Coordinator

Hi! I’m Katrina. My role within the Yoga Girl Dream Team is to welcome and support all applicants in their process of applying to, and arriving for, our Retreat and Training Programmes. I’ll be that friendly face that everyone is hoping to find when they walk through a new door, so leave your worries at home and prepare for the journey of a life time! How did I end up here? I guess the short answer is that I chose to take the path less travelled. As I approached my thirtieth birthday stumbled upon an uncomfortable truth that simply couldn’t be untold. I looked up and realised that, despite ‘having it all’ on paper, I was dangerously far from happy... So I took a deep breath asked the universe for some guidance and jumped! Saying ‘yes’ to life and following an internal spark led me through four years of incredible adventures from working for Arabic royalty, to travelling and teaching for the Dubai elite, before delivering me to my vision board dream... of running a wellness retreat (in the desert!), completing my Island Yoga Teacher Training and now... supporting this incredible Yoga Girl Community as the official ‘Mumma Bear’. So excited to be a part of this evolving space and super honored to be supporting and serving within it. See you soon! x
